About the Author

Born and raised in the small country towns of Missouri, Susan, an avid artist, writer and musician gives credit to God for her many given gifts. Through her artistic individuality, in 2004 Susan opened Art of the Lake, a business to retail her wildlife inspired artwork created from all different media. Through this business Susan provides art lessons in painting waterfowl, teaching the importance of wetland conservation and giving young students (K-12) the opportunity to participate in the Junior Federal Duck Stamp contest. Susan, along with her best friend, co-founded Vintage View by Sue, a wedding business of renting out wedding décor that is hand crafted and painted by Susan. This growing business inspired her to write and illustrate the Wedding Dogs, a series of children’s books; however the journey of writing began with The Coal Miners in 1989, a book she wrote, illustrated and published to dedicate to her children. As a wedding vendor, Susan exhibits her musical talents by performing and playing her violin for many weddings and churches. She went to college to study music and art at UMKC and continued to self-teach herself many different musical instruments thereafter. She lives with her husband in rural Missouri, where her backyard is scenic with wildlife and country inspiration that ignites the creativeness in her art, echoes the sounds of music and begins the imagination of a story.
